We know our pests!
Find out more information here about pests that are common to the Northwest and how we control them

The Facts

While we normally think of birds as cute and innocent, when they begin nesting in our homes or place of business we develop a different opinion of them.  Birds can be destructive, pecking their way in to make their nests in attics and vents.  Also, the bird poop and debris that falls out of their nests can be disgusting and unsightly!  Some of the pest birds in our area include pigeons, starlings, sparrows, swallows, and woodpeckers.

Pigeons are the most common nuisance bird, usually roosting any place that offers shelter from the elements.  They may get into attics, onto roofs, or into any opening or covered area.  They produce large quantities of droppings which are unsightly and corrosive to the structure.

Starlings are another bird that have become increasingly annoying in the northwest.  They are very crafty and will often get into stove and bathroom exhaust vents, learning how to lift the louvers with their beaks.

Swallows will form large mud nests around awnings and other sheltered areas, which causes aesthetic damage to the building.

And we all have seen the damage done by Woodpeckers to siding, decks, and other wooden structures.  Besides doing damage, nuisance birds can infest a home with bird mites, ticks, and other parasites, and they carry many disease pathogens.

The Solution

After properly identifying the nuisance bird, we will determine which control methods will be best suited for your situation.  Sometimes it is as simple as removing a nest and fixing a broken bird block or replacing a screen.  We may need to remove the nesting material that is blocking an exhaust vent and install a screen or bird basket.  In other cases there may be extensive modifications that need to be done to keep the birds from nesting and perching.  We use special products such as bird spikes, netting, repellents, and have other innovative methods to keep the birds away.  Bye bye birdie!
